Heavy rain, poor visibility and slick roads

On Behalf of | May 27, 2020 | Car Accidents |

During the summer, many parts of the country experience periods of heavy rainfall. During a downpour, many people stay indoors until the weather improves. However, some people find themselves stuck on the road and are unsure of what to do. It is important to recognize the various ways in which heavy rain increases the chances of a traffic collision, from poor visibility to slippery road conditions.

If you are involved in a crash while it is raining heavily, you need to stand up for yourself if another driver’s careless behavior caused the collision.

The inability to see traffic signs and other vehicles

Heavy rain is very dangerous because it prevents many drivers from seeing what is in front of them, such as other vehicles, stop signs and other important things to look out for. Sometimes, it is raining so heavily that a driver cannot see much of anything, in which case it is smart to pull over and wait for the rain to pass. Unfortunately, some people push themselves to keep driving during these conditions and some of them collide with parked vehicles.

Bad road conditions

Even after it stops raining, roads often remain dangerous for some period of time. Heavy puddles cause some drivers to lose control of their vehicles, while others swerve into another lane or off of the road after going around a sharp turn too fast when the road is slick. Unfortunately, even safe drivers find themselves in accidents because of the careless behavior of others, such as those who reach excessive speeds during poor weather.

If you were hit by a driver who was behaving recklessly, look into your legal options. Our law firm covers related issues on our blog.
